Scholarship Overview

Named for Jamaica’s Blue Mahoe—our national tree—these scholarships embody strength with resolve. The Blue Mahoe grows straight and steady, bending without breaking, then serves for decades. That is the spirit of this award.

We award full academic scholarships to two outstanding students —one collegiate young woman and one young man—based on academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to community service.

What Makes This Scholarship Different

This is not charity—it is investment with accountability. Every scholar is required to:

Maintain strong academic performance
Participate in mentorship
Participate in an existing Inspire & Serve–led community service initiative or design an approved innovative service project that directly benefits a Jamaican community or a recognized children’s or women’s home.

From promise to performance, the Blue Mahoe Scholarship removes financial barriers to degree completion while intentionally linking education to nation-building through structured service.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Academic Standing

Be enrolled full-time at an accredited Jamaican tertiary institution
Must demonstrate strong academic performance, evidenced by a cumulative average of 80% or above, or its institutional equivalent, as confirmed by the awarding academic institution.

*Percentage averages are used for eligibility purposes where applicable. Where an institution does not

formally calculate cumulative averages, academic standing will be assessed using official transcripts and

institutional verification.

Demonstrate consistent academic progress toward degree completion

2. Community Service & Leadership

Commit to completing an existing Inspire & Serve community service project
Propose an innovative, Inspire & Serve–approved community service initiative that benefits Inspire & Serve’s target populations (women, girls, boys, or vulnerable communities in Jamaica)

All service activities must:

Be approved and supervised by Inspire & Serve
Include defined objectives and measurable outcomes
Be completed in accordance with Inspire & Serve’s timelines and standards
Completion of the service requirement is a condition of scholarship disbursement

3. Character & Commitment

Submit a personal statement outlining academic goals, service values, and leadership aspirations
Agree to participate in mentoring activities throughout the scholarship period

4. Give-Back Requirement

Propose and complete a defined, measurable community project approved by Inspire & Serve
Projects must address a clear community need and include documented outcomes

5. General Requirements

Jamaican citizen or permanent resident
Willingness to comply with scholarship terms, reporting requirements, and program timelines

Scholarship Policy Statement

The Inspire & Serve Scholarship is a merit-based award designed to recognize and support academically strong students who demonstrate a sustained commitment to community service and national development.

Scholarships are awarded through a transparent selection process that prioritizes:

Academic achievement
Community engagement
Leadership potential
Alignment with Inspire & Serve’s mission of purpose-driven giving

Funds are applied directly to approved institutional fees, including eligible bursar arrears and current tuition, in accordance with institutional policies. Scholarship recipients are expected to uphold high standards of academic performance, ethical conduct, and civic responsibility throughout the award period.

In keeping with Jamaican values of service, accountability, and nation-building, each scholar must complete a structured community give-back project as a condition of the award. Failure to meet academic or service obligations may result in review or withdrawal of scholarship support.
